1. preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish
2. blanch fresh green beans in boiling water for 4–5 minutes, then drain and set aside
3. melt butter in a skillet over medium heat and whisk in flour, cooking for about 1 minute
4. gradually whisk in milk and broth until the sauce thickens
5. stir in cream of mushroom soup, garlic powder, salt, and pepper and simmer for 2–3 minutes
6. fold in turkey and green beans, then transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish
7. sprinkle cheese if using and half of the crispy fried onions over the filling
8. top with the remaining fried onions and bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until golden and bubbling
9. let rest for 5 minutes before serving to set the sauce
