1. Cook the wild rice separately in lightly salted water until tender, about 35 to 45 minutes, then drain and set aside.
2. Heat butter or oil in a large pot over medium heat and sauté onion, carrots, and celery until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.
3. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
4. Pour in the broth, add bay leaf and thyme, bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
5. Stir in the cooked wild rice and shredded turkey and simmer for another 10 minutes to heat through.
6. Reduce heat to low, stir in half-and-half (or chosen creamy substitute) and warm gently without boiling.
