2. If desired, brown sliced smoked sausage in a skillet for 2–3 minutes for extra flavor.
3. In a large bowl, combine frozen potatoes, cheddar cheese, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, ranch seasoning, and melted butter.
4. Fold in the sliced sausage until evenly distributed.
5. Spread the mixture into the prepared casserole dish and sprinkle extra cheese on top if desired.
6. Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes until cheese is bubbling and edges are golden.
7. Let rest for 5 minutes, then garnish with green onions, parsley, or crackers before serving.
