2. In a grease-free bowl whip egg whites until foamy then add cream of tartar and salt
3. Gradually add sugar while mixing until stiff glossy peaks form then mix in vanilla extract
4. Transfer meringue to a piping bag and pipe ghost shapes about 1 to 2 inches tall onto the baking sheet
5. Bake for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes without opening the oven door
6. Turn off the oven and let meringues cool inside with the door slightly ajar for 30 minutes before removing
7. Decorate cooled meringues with melted chocolate or edible markers to add ghostly faces
