2. In a bowl whisk flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
3. In a mixer cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Beat in molasses and egg until fully combined.
5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
6. Fold in chocolate chips with a spatula.
7. Chill dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
8. Scoop 1½-tablespoon dough balls and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
9. Bake for 9–11 minutes until edges are set and centers look soft.
10. Let cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
