Blackberry Spooky Pie

  • Total Time: 1 hr 5 mins
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A dramatic blackberry pie with a midnight-black cocoa crust and jewel-toned filling, decorated with eerie cutouts for a perfect Halloween or Wednesday Addams–inspired centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp black cocoa powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp activated charcoal powder
  • 1 stick chilled unsalted butter, cubed
  • ½ cup ice-cold water
  • 3 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • Zest of 1 lemon

  • Instructions

    1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, black cocoa powder, charcoal, and a pinch of salt.

    2. Cut butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    3. Gradually sprinkle ice water, stirring until dough just comes together; form into a disk, wrap, and chill for 15 minutes.

    4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

    5. Roll out half the dough and line a 9-inch pie pan, trimming excess. Roll remaining dough and cut into shapes (bats, spider webs) for the top.

    6. In a bowl, toss blackberries with sugar, cornstarch, and lemon zest until well coated.

    7. Pour filling into the crust, arrange cutouts on top, and crimp edges.

    8. Bake 40–45 minutes until filling bubbles and crust is firm.

    9. Cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
